The Season of Essay

About 2000 kinds of species which came from other countries currently live in Japan as invasive species. Invasive species are animals or plants which are non-native, and compete with the native inhabitants by taking over their territory. Due to close relationships between Japan and other countries, the entry of invasive species into Japan was made possible. The existence of invasive species also affected human beings, resources, and ecosystem.

The beetle is one good example of Japanese invasive species. The beetles’ population started a rapid growth is in 1999. They used to be not so popular before, however they gained popularity for two reasons. First, the International Plant Protection Convention, which came into effect in 1950 and restricted the import any harmful species in Japan, was relaxed. This made it easier to import animals and plants, so the number of species entering Japan increased. The other reason is that the image of beetles people had before changed dramatically because of the affection of children to foreign beetle. Surprisingly, this enthusiastic trend has extended to adults as well. Foreign beetles have characteristics that are different from the Japanese ones with respect to their size, shape, and color. For example, the Hercules beetle, which is a foreign beetle, is said to be the biggest beetle in the world. Its wing color is yellow, and it has a big horn. In addition, some TV animations about insects, especially beetles, were broadcasted in a way that gave an impetus to the popularity of non-native beetles from abroad. So the number of beetles imported from overseas to Japan as pets has increased year by year. In fact, the number of non-native beetles imported in 1999 is amounted to 7,000; reached 463,000 in 2000 eventually peaked at 1,923,000 in 2005. When we compare the ratio between 1999 and 2005, it is about 275 times. This exponential rise in reflects the increase in the number of people attracted to small insects.

As a result, many problems have occurred due to the foreign beetles. First, there are possibilities of any microbe and parasite carrying diseases. It is said that imported beetles haven’t brought any disease nor been harmful for human beings in Japan at present, but we can’t declare this will always be the same. Secondly, it could affect agriculture and environment. One of the invasive beetles, the Rhinoceros beetle, feeds on sugar canes, palm, and pineapple trees. And this feeding habit causes damages to farm products. Moreover, the invasive species usually don’t have natural enemies. That’s why their number has increased sharply, so it can be said that “wild invasive species” take away original environments from the native species. The most serious problem is genetic pollution by hybridization. Genetic pollution is undesirable gene flow into native populations. Spreading invasive species’ genes around domestic species has the danger to distinct native ones. Many scientists have had misgivings about the disappearance of native species in near future.

In 2004, Invasive Alien Species Act was enforced. This is the law to limit how many and what kinds of species can be imported into Japan. Although this law has taken effect for five years, we have faced to the issue of invasive species because of the difficulty in removing them. Practically, it has remained difficult to completely reduce the import of foreign insects.

Finally, we need to know the root of these serious problems about invasive species. The people have brought foreign species from other countries into Japan for several reasons such as pets, and also they have spread them over the country. In the beetles’ case, people who can’t breed foreign beetles anymore, they tend to release the non-native beetles into the wild. They do this because they think that it is the best way for living things even though this action has had a bad influence on the environment. We must not forget our responsibility for all of the species when we concern with them. Japan isn’t only the country that has the issue of these invasive species, this issue has happened in the countries of all over the world too. Nowadays, global warming, acid rain, rising sea level, and environment pollution are well-known as the world issues, and people have made an effort to change them for the better. On the other hand, there are still controversial issues like invasive species on the earth. It is necessary not only to think but also to put these ideas into action to protect all of living things before this problem is more serious.

#2 "La tigre e la neve" by Roberto Benigni

My first summer holiday was started, I guess almost students in Bunkyo University would have begun their vacation like me. In my routines, I have tried cleaning my room from early morning but...my hands still have being worked because I don't finish it yet! Moreover, I watched the movie of Roberto Benigni before I knew it so that I thought that "I do need to tell how nice it is!"

I'd like to tell shortly about its story and my ideas. Roberto Benigni isn't only one of the great directors in Italy, also he is also known as good actor and comedian. His firm "Life Is Beautiful" in 1998 which he was nominated seven Academy Awards is so famous around the world. "La tigre e la neve"(English: "The Tiger and the Snow") in 2005 is his latest firm. Attilio de Giovanni(Roberto Benigni) is a professor to teach poety. Vittoria(Nicoletta Braschi) who works as a writer is his wife but they live separately because Attilio had adulterous affairs before, and they don't get marry. Attilio always has told her how he loves her. However Vittoria usually returns the same sentence to him "If It snows in Rome and I see a tiger then, I'll marry with you." One day, Vittoria went to Iraq to write biograpy of Fuad(Jean Reno) who is a poet. Unfortunately, she was involved the Iraq Wars, then she was seriously ill. When Attilio knew its news, the time to save his wife in Iraq was begun...

This is a love story which relates social factors like Iraq Wars and religion's issues. Some of scence has expressions that I could realize what immigrants in Iraq have spent hard time. Although this movie was made in 2005, issues of Iraq isn't solved yet. I enjoyed its love parts with poeties(I often make a poety to have fun of rhymes), on the other hand, it gave me feeling that we have faced a lot of issues now.

The point that I recommend it is casts in this firm. Roberto Benigni acts a main character and his wife(Nicoletta Braschi, yeah! She is real wife of him. what a wonderful they are.) appears in his movies. I think that they love each other deeply, so they may be able to act realistic, don't you think so?

I hope you'd like to borrow this movie at DVD shop, and are going to move yourself by their story. :D

#1 "Bonjour Tristesse" by Sagan

Long time no see, I surely had left from blog since I realized this monthe was already July. I have spent busy school times to do difficult assignments, have part-time jobs, and plan this summer vacation which I can spend fruitful time as a student. Moreover, I'm facing "wonderful" tests soon.

Anyway, I'll give you the information of "Sagan-Bonjour Tristesse", which started to show on June 6th. This is the story of a woman that lived storongly as a rich, and also as a poor in one life. "Bonjour Tristesse," the title of book in Franch, was written by Françoise Sagan in 1954. Surprisingly, she wrote it when she was 18 years old. If I was in her position at that time, I couldn't be herself. I mean that it was impossible for me to write such as wonderful stories of Sagan because I didn't survive my life like her. I just have lived peacefully.

Now, we can see "Bonjour Tristesse" in Ginza, so I'd like to go theather to seek what Sagan was. (I have never read and watched firms about her books.)

Magician Made a Miracle is No Melt Ice-cream

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Today's article is a wonderful magic came from Kanazawa city. Whoever loves ice-cream must have hoped "Please don't melt soon!" for a long time. Of course, I also have longed for it not to melt quickly (especially in summer). However, a special magician/technician made did dream come true in recent.

#It's from one Japanese article, so I summerized and transfered it.#

According to the new dated May 21, the Japanese seaweed food institute Kanazawa city in Ishikawa prefecture and one of the professor in Kanazawa University, they invested an ice-cream. Its ingredients contain Okara/bean curd lees paste which was made by special process. Therefore, this ice-cream has some good factors though this process. One, it can prevent itself from melting about one hour if you put it on outside so that people can enjoy different texture every time. The other, it’s light calorie, healthy, and easy for children to eat. In near future, they’ll sell new Okara foods as well as ice-cream.

I guess this ice-cram has limit to start melting, but it was a big revolution for ice-cream lovers. Some of them might like melting ice-cream. However, I hope ice-cream will be able to change toward good direction/part for our life.

Gived birth gave me gift

Good evening/morning though it's about 1 o'clock at night.

Today, I'd like to talk to you about how important the 20th birthday is. To tell the truth, yesterday(on May 21th) was my birthday of the 20 times. Some of my friends I could see at school gave me special present(sweet snacks!) with birthday card. The others sang "Happy Birthday" song for me in English. Moreover, my friends that were the same high school as me sent emails even though I totally had forgot when I received their emails.

However, the greatest things on my birthday was brought by my mother. The day before yesterday, May 20th, my mother became a "Santa Claus in May." She left a birthday cake in the refrigerator. This is alike situation that Santa Claus left a present in red socks, isn't it? So that I was so surprised at present with opening the door of refigerator and my mouth! I could be smiling at that time. Then, I thought about how I was given a lot of affection by my family(particularly my mother). In usual life, people can't see what the family is and how important they are. It was a first time to feel them even though I have lived with my family for 20 years old.

I want people to do think about their all relatives (not only family) because whoever have many kinds of influences for each others. Finally, I want to say "Thank you!" to my mother and all of my friends. :D

Car Chose Chocolate as Friend to Clean.

Good morning, everyone. Did you look at the today's sky? What's a fine day today! A few days ago, the rainbow appeared in the sky by(for) 20~30 minutes. I couldn't help singing "Over The Rainbow" MANY times. (I was pretty sure that I tripped to the OZ world.)

Anyway, I'm telling you about new ecological biofuel vehicles(cars) from London.
According to the newspaper on May 5, scientists disclosed their new biofuel vehicles. This vehicle fuel produced by scientist uses waste from chocolate fancties and made partly from plant fibers. In other words, those cars "eat" chocolates and plant fibers to run! Morever, their vehicles changed not only fuel but steering wheel(is made from plant-based fibers came from carrots and other root vegetables), seat(is built of flax/linen fiber and soybean oil foam/bubble), and body(is made of plant fibers).

Scientists at the University of Warwick said "Our car is the fastest to run on biofuels and also be made from biodegradable materials. It has been built to Formula 3 specifications about the car's size, weight, and performance."

Those cars are use by racers so that they need speeds. Scientists tested them on a racetrack several times, speeds of cars was approximately 60 mph though scientists hoped to reach 145 mph, There are still some adjustments(adaptations) to run by 145 mph.

Warwick's project manager James Meredith said "Our model shows that it is possible to build a fast, efficient, environmentally friendly car."

They called their car "WorldFirst Formula 3 racing car," is going to display ar several races the European Grand Prix, Britain's Goodwood Festival of Speed, and aother race.

I don't have car licence, and also I'm not interested in car because I'm not good at mechanic much. Therefore I chose this topic to find any funny thing. As s result, I tried this article. Did you enjoy it?

We live on the earth with nature, animals, materials(arts) created by people, and all things. I think that the best way for all lives is the symbiosis(living close together) with regard(kindness). Especially, people have a big influence on the large part of the earth as same as nature. If people don't take care of the other lives, the earth must be like Mars, which no one can live. Thinking about environment on the earth will certainly make all lives happy. I hope poeple(of course, including of me) will be more friendly for the earth.

Exploring the evidence what Mercury is

Hi, everyone. I found an amazing article on the Internet. This is some new evidences about Mercury.
According to this story, NASA's MESSENGER made its second close-approach flyby of Mercury in October 2008.The spacecraft was first time to visit the diminutive(small) planet since Mariner 10 spacecraft's sojourn(stay) in 1970s.Then NASA's MESSENGER discovered a giant crater and evidence of ancient volcanoes, which no one may has seen. The giant crater's length is as almost same as the distance between Washington, D.C, and Boston. Can you imagine how long this distance is? Washington, D.C is on the west coast, on the other hand, Boston is on the opposite side! There is "the other United States of America" on Mercury. That sounds nice, doesn't it?

Next, about volucanoes, NASA's MESSENGER discovered there was volcanism(volcanic activity) to make huge crust(a thin hard dry layer on the surface of something) on Mercury. One of reseachers said "Volcanism was a really important process on Mercury, which is pretty exciting because before MESSENGER's flybys of Mercury we were really not even sure that volcanism existed on Mercury,"I also was excited because of some new clues of Mercury. Even though only a few people(human beings) can have been to planets by spaceship.... Before NASA's MESSENGER went to Mercury in this investigation, scientists had thought that Mercury was very similar to Earth's moon composition for a long time. However, the surface of mercury is suppose to be more similar to that of Mars than of the Moon now. Mercury is "a member of Mars' family"! :D

This article lasts but....(I'm sleeping with typing! omg). If you're interested in Mercury and need more its information, please click link on the bottom of this article.

Well, I often view some tiny stars from my small window. Especially, I like the sky in summer. There are some reasons why I prefer summer sky to winter one.First, summer have less rainy and cloudy days than winter so that we have a lot of oppotunities to view stars clearly. Secondly, I don't like cold much. It's hard for me to go out at late night in winter. Finally, Altair(is called Hikoboshi in japanese) and Vega(is called Orihime in japanese) can see each other again on July 7. They have ONLY ONE chance per annum(every year)! Because of those reasons, I like summer sky.

Anyway, which season is the best to view stars, summer or winter? What do you think about it? Please tell me your opinion. :)
